The Social Studies program at John Ware is an exciting area of instruction that focuses on three main themes or "units" for each Grade level. In Grade 7 and 8, the program focuses on integrated curriculum, particularly between the Social Studies and Language Arts areas. In grade 9, instruction tends to become a little more specialized, but, generally, all Grade levels feature complex and student centered units with an effective mix of teacher directed, cooperative learning and student generated learning activities.

The units of study at the Grade 7 level are A) Culture B) Japan and C) Canada: a Multicultural Society. In Grade 8, the units include A) The Geography of North America B) Brazil and C) Canada. Grade 9 features the following units: A) The USA: A Market Economy B) The USSR: A Command Economy and C) Canada : A Mixed Economy. The Grade 9 units focus on models of economic development and trace the development of different economies in the world while also comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the different economic systems.
