At John Ware Junior High School, the priority of the Science Team is to achieve scientific literacy for all students. Gaining a solid foundation in the relations of science, technology and society is an essential part of our daily experiences and practical applications. Aspects of biology, chemistry, physics and special projects are part of each student's activities.
Our Science Team designs learning activities to have active participation and to develop individual growth. In Grades 7 and 8, several projects involve integration of scientific research to understand how information fits into subjects other than science. These projects encourage students to use resources from Computer programs, Internet and the Library. Classroom presentations and displays for peers, parents and the community develop the ability to pay attention to detail.
A 3 day trip for Grade sevens is offered to study botany and outdoor science in conjunction with the University of Calgary Kananaskis Research Station. A variety of field trips are structured into Grade 7,8, and 9 programs.
A balance of individual effort, partnerships and teams work allow for a wide-range of learning opportunities. Students engage in inquiry discussions, reading comprehension, scientific laboratory process and problem-solving.
The John Ware Science Program is proud of the opportunities our Team provides and its student-centre activities focus on academic growth, dedicated work ethic and scientific skills. Students leave John Ware School well-prepared for future challenges in Science.
