In a unique program offered in partnership with Southland Leisure Centre, our program is primarily designed to promote student growth through healthy and active living. Instruction is available in team game areas such as football, basketball, rugby, volleyball, baseball, lacrosse, team handball and soccer. Individual activities include badminton, squash, racquetball, wrestling, weight training and aerobics. Social dance, aquatics and ice hockey all round out a varied program for all John Ware students. Future units of instruction may include broomball, golf and tennis.
At John Ware we offer a wide range of athletic experiences for all students to enjoy. Excellence as displayed through hard work in sport is essential to the development of a sound spirit. Athletic programs are run by teachers acting as either coaches or sponsors and we encourage interested people within the community to step forward and help with technical coaching.
Our athletic program includes teams in the following sports:
- volleyball
- Olympic wrestling
- Basketball
- Badminton
- Track and Field
- Gymnastics
- Cross Country Running
Our program is very successful, competing in divisions with other schools in the Junior High School Athletic Association. During the past 5 years we have been very successful in all of our athletic endeavors, winning many championships.
We are proud of the fact that almost every second student is involved in athletic competition in some form, representing our school and themselves as best they can.
