The Language Arts program at John Ware blends the teaching of skills and content with cross-curricular learning from other subject areas wherever possible. Particularly at the Grade 7 and 8 levels, Language skills are taught to be used across the curriculum through integrated learning projects involving as many subjects as possible.
At John Ware, the Language Arts program involves many aspects of Language and learning; including whole language, grammar, spelling, Reader's Theater, Writer's Workshop and individualized instruction programs wherever possible.
Our Language Arts teachers have a wealth of experience in their field. Mr Hamilton, Ms Slater, Mrs Meek, Mrs. Shartau, Mrs Thies, and Mr Mouland have over 90 years of combined teaching experience. From Grade 7 through 9, our Language Arts staff strives to teach skills consistently, using important tools like the writing process, listening skills and reading comprehension.

Students at the Grade 7 and 8 levels at John Ware participate in integrated learning activities and, quite often, will have the same teacher for Language Arts and Social Studies. This enables students the opportunity to transfer skills across the curriculum and to work more intensely with fewer teachers.
At John Ware, we believe strongly in the importance of a dynamic Language Arts program and we promote the growth of Language skills for all our students.
